Although the father of our country, George Washington, owned a Basset Hound, the breed did not become popular until 1928. The Basset's floppy ears and soulful eyes have made them a favorite of photographers and dog lovers. Extremely intelligent, they have an even, gentle disposition that makes them a great pet for families with small children.
