An arctic dog, this breed was named for the Alaskan Malamute Indian nation. The exact origin of the people, as well as the dog, is unknown. Several authors have favored the dog including Jack London and Rudyard Kipling. Extremely loyal and intelligent, the Malamute is very affectionate with its master.
